Life in ABQ

ABQ is surprisingly starting to feel like home.  We have only lived here for a little over three months but for some reason it feels longer (in a good way!).  We are both staying busy with our jobs, but I would rather be busy than bored.  We have already made some great friends and we have actually been climbing outside!  The weather in ABQ is very similar to Boulder/Denver, except for one major difference - it rarely snows in ABQ!  Since we have been here I think it has snowed three times and it definitely did not stick to the road by our house.  I am not a fan of snow so the lack of snow is making ABQ a great place for me!  It can get cold here, but it usually warms up a bit during the day and I really don't mind the cold when the sun is shining!

What we have been up to lately:
- House browsing - trying to figure out what / where we want to buy in the fall when we are ready
- Climbing - inside at the gym in the evenings and outside on the weekends
- Running - we are trying to get back into running shape as we have neglected this since leaving CO. Micah needs to get in shape before his Mount Rainier course in April, so we started a training schedule this week. We both have prospective running partners at work as well!
- Church shopping - this has been surprisingly difficult and frustrating as nothing has felt like a good fit for us thus far...
- Eating - we have been trying lots of different restaurants around ABQ and I can truly say I have actually been craving chile (I usually prefer green over red, but sometimes I go with Christmas :) ).

That's pretty much life for us right now.  Nothing too spectacular but definitely staying busy and enjoying it.

A New Kind of January

I just realized today, when I was leaving work at 5:00 and it was still a little light out, that this is going to be the best January I have had in years!  As an accountant January usually means looonnnngggg hours, but not this year!  Since UNM's year end is June everything is different this January.

Last week my younger brother came to town for five nights.  We had a great time exploring ABQ and climbing outside (which is also very strange to me in January since I grew up in MI!).  This weekend I am headed back to Holland for a weekend reunion with some wonderful high school friends.  I am so looking forward to catching up with everyone.  The following weekend Micah and I are going to Ouray, CO to go ice climbing.  This is something new to me, but I'm excited as Ouray is supposed to be one of the best places in the world to learn to ice climb.

I can't wait to see what 2011 brings as the year seems to be starting off so well!
